“Baroness” offers a rare look at the favela slums: a female point of view. A film about women, about the women who live in neighbourhoods with a woman’s name (Leidiane and Andreia live in “Juliana”, but the latter wants to move to “Baronesa” (Baroness). According to the director: “she IS the woman looking at the woman without hints of delicacy, sentimentality and all that sweetened frame of traditional femininity”.
